Havant man arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after losing control of Mercedes on A27 near Farlington

POLICE have arrested a man from Havant on suspicion of drug driving after his Mercedes crashed into the central reservation of A27 near Farlington this morning.

Police were calling to the incident on the A27 eastbound between Eastern Road and the junction for A3M at around 11.20am.

The 34-year-old driver of the white Mercedes had lost control in the wet conditions and collided with the central reservation, blocking two lanes of the motorway and causing heavy delays.

Officers performed a drugs test on the driver, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We attended a single vehicle collision on the A27 eastbound at Farlington at 10.41am this morning.

‘Two lanes were closed for a short time while the vehicle was recovered and debris cleared from the road.

‘No-one was hurt.

‘The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old man from Havant, was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.’

He has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

The crash meant Stagecoach bus services were unable to serve the stop at Solent Road, but normal service has now resumed.
