Heavy delays on A27 near Hilsea due to an emergency incident

A collision on the A27 near Hilsea has led to heavy congestion on the road following emergency services dealing with the incident.

Emergency services closed the third lane of the westbound main road to deal with the collision, which occurred just before the slip road to the Hilsea roundabout at 8.24am.

The lane was blocked for 15 minutes while the incident was dealt with.

One driver who drove past the damaged car said: ‘I was driving down the slip road when I noticed a police car next to a car that had its front smashed in.

‘It has clearly hit something – the car looked like a write-off.

‘No one was in the car when I passed it.’

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We were called at 7.53am to a report of a collision in lane three of the A27 westbound near Hilsea roundabout.

‘No injuries were reported.’

The traffic update service for Hampshire County Council tweeted: ‘#A27 #Hilsea Westbound - lane 3 is cleared due to an earlier RTI near the A3/#M27, heavy delays remain.’
