M27 closure: Traffic builds on A27 in Fareham as motorway bridge work enters second day

The motorway has been closed between junctions 9 and 11 so that a footbridge north of Fareham can be installed.

It had to be replaced to prepare for the smart motorway being created between junctions 4 and 11, which entails widening the carriageway.

Yesterday heavy traffic was reported on the A27, and also north of the motorway around Wickham, Bishop’s Waltham and Botley.

There are 15-minute delays on the A27 at the moment, and about a 10-minute delay coming off the M27 westbound at junction 11 for Fareham, where the diversion starts.

Delays of about 20 minutes have also been reported around Wickham and Shedfield.

On Twitter, Highways England said this morning: ‘The M27 North Fareham Footbridge's work continues through the weekend. We are making the most of the closure for the bridge installation to also carry out additional work.’
