Police incident that left M27 blocked in both directions is cleared after three hours - but drivers still face 'miles' of queues

The motorway was shut between junction 9 for Fareham and junction 8 for Southampton after the incident was reported at 6pm.
Romanse, Hampshire County Council’s traffic account, earlier reported delays of 30 minutes in both directions.

Hide AdHighways England confirmed there was an ongoing ‘police incident’.
A post on Twitter said: ‘The M27 in Hampshire is currently blocked in both directions between J8 Southampton and J9 due to an ongoing police incident.’
But Romanse has now said the incident has been resolved. ‘Police incident cleared in both directions,’ a post on Twitter said before adding: ‘Heavy delays remain on both approaches.’
Highways England added: ‘The queue of traffic spans a few miles in both directions but you will be moving again soon. Safe travels.’
