A POLICE incident that saw the M27 blocked on both carriageways has now been cleared after three hours – but motorists are still being warned of ‘heavy delays’ with ‘miles’ of queues.

Romanse, Hampshire County Council’s traffic account, earlier reported delays of 30 minutes in both directions.

Highways England confirmed there was an ongoing ‘police incident’.

A post on Twitter said: ‘The M27 in Hampshire is currently blocked in both directions between J8 Southampton and J9 due to an ongoing police incident.’

But Romanse has now said the incident has been resolved. ‘Police incident cleared in both directions,’ a post on Twitter said before adding: ‘Heavy delays remain on both approaches.’

Highways England added: ‘The queue of traffic spans a few miles in both directions but you will be moving again soon. Safe travels.’
