THE department of transport has awarded £4.5m to improve bus services across the area.

Transport for South Hampshire’s applied for a share of the Better Bus Area £50m fund and succeeded.

The project aims to improve the quality of bus travel in south Hampshire, reduce congestion on local roads, reduce carbon emissions and support economic growth.

Around 150 buses will be refurbished with wi-fi being installed on the majority of the south Hampshire bus fleet. Display screens showing the next stops will also be put in place as well as smart apps for mobile phones giving bus timetable information.
