A SERIES of accidents has closed the A27 in both directions between the Emsworth junction and Chichester this evening.

The Highways Agency has said diversions are in place between Emsworth and Chichester.

The road is currently closed in both directions between the A259 near Chichester (West) and the A259 near Emsworth due to a serious incident.

A signed diversion route is currently in operation in both directions via the A259.

Eastbound traffic is advised to follow the diamond diversion symbol whilst Westbound traffic should follow the triangle diversion symbol.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area while investigations are carried out.

Anyone who was travelling along the A27 and witnessed any of the collisions is asked to contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101.
