DRIVERS will be helped to swap their cars for buses and bikes by travel advisors visiting door-to-door in Gosport.

Eight advisors from My Journey will visit Bridgemary, Brockhurst and Ann’s Hill until the end of August.

People who have not tried public transport will be given one-day and one-week bus and ferry passes from First Bus and Gosport Ferry.

My Journey hopes to speak to 7,800 residents to suggest taking the bus, train, walking, cycling or car sharing instead of driving.

The advisors will also give out a new Gosport cycle map, along with up-to-date bus and ferry timetables.

It comes after a scheme in Basingstoke saw a third of residents taking part change the way they travelled.

The project is being funded by the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport fund.

It aims to reduce congestion at peak times, along with reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
