UPDATE: Portsmouth-London train line reopened after ‘significant damage’ to railway

Have your say

THERE were smiles all round when more than 90 members of the Fratton Train Crews met for their annual reunion.

The former train drivers and guards meet every year in the Rifle Club, in Goldsmith Avenue, Southsea.

Social secretary of the group, Jim Lawlor, 67, of Anchorage Park, said a couple of members were more than 90 years old.

‘It is always a fantastic event,’ he said.

‘The stories some of our members have to tell are just unbelievable.

‘Every year you have literally hundreds of years of experience working on the railways in one room.

‘Members come from Spain, Wales and all over the country – it’s sort of like a pilgrimage for them. And this year there wasn’t one miserable face in the room.’
