POLICE want help tracking down a driver after a car smashed into the central reservation on the M275.

A blue Volkswagen Golf and a silver Vauxhall Astra were seen racing through the streets of Portsmouth before joining the motorway.

Shortly after, the Vauxhall collided with the crash barrier and overturned, skidding along the carriageway.

A third car, a Seat Ibiza, was hit from behind.

It happened at about 9pm on Tuesday.

The blue Volkswagen was not there when the police arrived.

PC Derek Hearn, of the eastern roads policing unit, said: ‘We are keen to trace an older style blue Volkswagen Golf and its driver who may have been involved in this incident.

‘The vehicle may have front-end damage.’

No-one was injured in the crash.

Anyone who can help identify the driver, or who may have seen the crash, should call PC Hearn at Fratton police station on 101.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
