Appeal after man dies in M27 crash near Whiteley

A MAN has died after the car he was driving hit the central crash barrier of the M27.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the crash, which happened this morning at about 9am.

The large, dark, 4x4 vehicle, which the 56-year-old man was driving, struck the crash barrier about 600 metres past the westbound on-slip at Junction 9 westbound near Whiteley.

He taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was declared dead.

Police are now asking anyone who saw the incident or the vehicle beforehand to contact them as they may have important information about what may have caused the crash.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Dan Golding at the Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting Operation Heka.

The crash closed one lane and caused delays, although it was reopened at 11am this morning.
