A MAN has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Gosport.

The 31-year-old was held at his home in the town this morning.

He was taken into custody to beinterviewed by officers.

The arrest follows the incident at 6.50pm yesterday in Privett Road close to the junction with The Chase in Gosport.

The cyclist has been identified as a 79-year-old local man.

He is in the neurological intensive care unit of Southampton General Hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and ask for Sergeant Andy Lynch, quoting Operation Clouded.
