A MOTORCYCLIST died in a crash on a rural lane in West Sussex.

The 27-year-old was in collision with a Mazda car in Madgwick Lane in Westhampnett, close to the junction with Claypit Lane, near Chichester,

He was pronouced dead at the scene following the collision at about 9.40am on Sunday.

Sussex police said the motorcyclist was from Hampshire. They have yet to formally name him.

The driver of the car, a 65-year-old woman from Chichester, was not injured.

PC Stuart Watson, from Sussex police, said: ‘The road was closed for more than six hours while officers attended and we would like to thank drivers for their patience. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased man at this time.’
