BUSES on the new bus rapid transit route have now carried more than 100,000 passengers.

According to data from ticket machines on board Eclipse buses, the 100,000th passenger was carried on May 17.

Bus company First says data suggests some people are making the swap from car to bus, after recording a 23 per cent growth in bus users.

Matthew Kitchin, general manager at First, said: ‘Instead of just attracting customers from other bus routes in the area, the Eclipse BRT network has, it seems, encouraged more people to use our services as well.

‘Overall we are pleased with how it is going so far and we hope the trend continues.’

The 1,000,000th customer to go on board an Eclipse bus will be rewarded with some free travel as well as a certificate.
