A FIRE broke out on the embankment near Portsmouth Harbour railway station.

The incident at 2pm yesterday was caused by a cable.

Southsea firefighters were sent out to inspect the situation and a Network Rail engineer then went to make repairs.

There was no impact on rail journeys.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said: ‘We had reports of a fire on the embankment near Portsmouth Harbour station at 2pm.

‘This turned out to be a small cable fire.

‘There has been no impact on rail services and no danger to the public.’
