A CAR smashed into an army surplus store.

Firefighters were called to the store at the junction of New Road and Kingston Road, Buckland, at 3.12am on Saturday. The driver had been travelling south when the car smashed into the store.

When the two crews from Southsea arrived the car had been reversed out of the store and the driver was gone.

The security grill on the front was damaged and the window was smashed.

Police are investigating.
