TWO fishermen were rescued after a search by the coastguard helicopter when their boat sank yesterday.

Solent Coastguard, based in Lee-on-the-Solent, sent its helicopter out after the sinking at 8am.

It comes after the coastguard received several 999 calls from people who saw a red distress flare west of the Needles Lighthouse, Isle of Wight.

The helicopter and the RNLI Yarmouth lifeboat found the boat sunk near Christchurch, in Dorset.

The men were rescued from their life raft, which they had been on for two hours.

Apart from being cold, both men were fine and did not need any treatment.
