A MAN died after being hit on the head by a yacht’s boom.

The crew member was on the boat in the Solent. A mayday call was sent at about 1pm.

The coastguard helicopter at Lee-on-the-Solent was sent out and a paramedic was winched on board but the man was declared dead at the scene.

The mayday was sent from off Gurnard Ledge, Isle of Wight. Hampshire police said the death was not suspicious.
