PORTSMOUTH is to play host to its first cruise convention.

More than 50 representatives from the cruise industry will be at Portsmouth International Port on Wednesday for Portsmouth Cruise Expo.

It is being jointly organised by the port, the Association of Cruise Experts and cruise brand Swan Hellenic.

The programme will include a Mini Cruise Trade Fair in the port’s new terminal, an Ace training seminar for travel agents on the subject of ‘Selling the value of cruising’, a tour of Swan Hellenic’s liner Minerva and lunch on board.

Captain Rupert Taylor, Harbour Master and Portsmouth International Port’s cruise captain, will open the event.

He said: ‘These are exciting times at Portsmouth International Port.

‘We are delighted to show our new passenger facilities to so many specialists involved in the industry.

‘The cruise ship industry is great news for Portsmouth – the whole city benefits every time a ship comes to visit, and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more in 2012.’
