RAIL commuters faced disruption this morning when trains were cancelled between Fareham and Southampton Central.

Over-running engineering works were the cause of the disruption between Hamble and St Denys.

Journey times were extended by up to 50 minutes and First Great Western services were be diverted via Eastleigh to connect with trains to Southampton.

Replacement buses were also brought in to run between Fareham and Southampton Central.

By 7.12am some trains were operating on the route. However rail customers who were still facing delays were advised they could use local bus 23 between Portsmouth and Southsea and Cosham.
