PART of a major city road is shut to enable works on new community facilities for Somers Town to progress.

Diversions are in place between Isambard Brunel Road and Bradford Junction on Winston Churchill Avenue in Portsmouth.

The stretch is set to be closed until 6am on Monday, and then again from 1am on January 25 to 6am on January 27.

The council has said the closure is in place to enable construction firm BAM to work on the Somers Town Central building which spans the dual carriageway.

Motorists, bus passengers, cyclists and other road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys during these closures.

The stretch is not accessible to pedestrians during the closures.

Bus bus stops in Winston Churchill Avenue, at Bradford Junction, Somers Town Health Centre and Isambard Brunel Road are shut during the closures and routes one and two are diverted.
