A FEMALE driver crashed into a pedestrian crossing after the front wheel came off the car she was driving.

The mechanical failure caused her to crash into the new railings at the junction of Copnor Road and Burrfields Road, in Copnor.

The collision happened at 1.14pm.

No-one was injured in the incident or using the crossing, near the Star and Garter pub, at the time of the collision.

The road was blocked until 2pm when police cleared the debris and allowed traffic to flow again.
