A YOUNG woman from Portsmouth is fighting for her life in hospital after a serious crash on the A3.

The 25-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision near Buriton.

At around 11.35am last Friday, the woman’s blue Fiat Seicento was travelling north when it collided with the nearside barrier between Queen Elizabeth Country Park and the sliproad to Buriton.

The car rolled over before coming to rest on the central reservation.

The woman was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The passenger in the car, a 34-year-old man from Portsmouth, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police have now launched a witness appeal as they try to work out the circumstances of the crash.

The northbound carriageway was closed for more than three hours while officers investigated the scene and recovered the vehicle.

Anyone with information should call Sergeant Nigel Burt from the Whitchurch Roads Policing unit, quoting Operation Lauderdale, on 101.
