PART of the A27 was closed tonight after a man was rescued from a car which had caught on fire.
The westbound carriageway near the Brockhampton junction has been closed since just before 9pm.
Hampshire Police have not yet said when the road is likely to reopen.
All three emergency services were called to the scene.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, said: ‘We were called to the A27 westbound just before the Havant exit on the slip road towards the A3 (M) to a road traffic accident involving one car.
‘One male was trapped in a car, which was overturned and was on fire.
‘The man – believed to be in his 40s – was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, to be treated for serious head injuries.’
In a separate incident ambulance and fire crews were also called out to Credenhill Road, Paulsgrove, at 7.30pm today after a car crashed into a wall.
The driver walked out of the car and was taken to QA for treatment.
