DRIVERS have been thanked for their patience after an overturned van on the M275 caused severe delays across Portsmouth.
One of the main routes out of the city was blocked today after a van overturned on the M275 northbound carriageway, just before the Tipner junction, shortly after midday.
Hampshire Constabulary said three vehicles were involved in the accident, but only minor injuries were sustained, although two cars also overturned.
Alan Cufley, Portsmouth City Council’s director for transport, said authorities are hoping to clear congestion ‘as soon as possible’.
He said: ‘We’re very grateful for people’s understanding and patience while dealing with a difficult situation.
‘Our emergency traffic plan allowed us to work closely with the police and Colas to reopen the motorway as soon as it was safe to do so, and we are now focused on ensuring all subsequent delays are cleared as quickly as possible.’
