THE Met Office has warned that a spell of sleet and snow is expected in the area.

A yellow weather warning has been issued.

From Sunday evening through to Monday morning, snow will be accompanied by a strong easterly wind.

Forecasters say about 4cm of snow could fall in the area and the public are being warned to beware of icy roads.

Andy Smith of the AA, said: ‘After a pretty good couple of weeks, there could be an end-of-winter sting-in-the tail for drivers who may have thought the bad weather was all over.

‘Even if there’s no snow where you are, it will feel very cold with a risk of widespread overnight frosts and icy conditions lasting well into next week.

‘Wherever you’re going this weekend, wrap up warm, put the winter kit back in the boot and take extra care on the roads.’
