AN ELDERLY woman is in a serious condition after she was knocked off her mobility scooter in a collision with a car.

The accident happened about 10.15am on Saturday in Bridge Road, Park Gate, near the Middle Road intersection.

A police spokeswoman said the 86-year-old woman, a Park Gate resident, was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

The spokeswoman said: ‘Although her condition is described as serious it is not believed she sustained serious injuries in the condition.’

The car, a Honda CR-V, was being driven by another woman, who police say was left ‘uninjured, but badly shaken’ by the incident.

The road was closed for three hours while an investigation was carried out.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident come forward. Call the Roads Policing Unit on 101.
