PLANNING permission has been granted to install a boat lift at Haslar Marina which will revolutionise boat maintenance there.

The Sealift2 dock will be installed by Sealift2 International Ltd, and is described as an eco-friendly floating dry dock.

It lifts 5ft motor boats and yachts weighing up to 50 tons in less than five minutes, meaning hull cleaning, parts replacement and relaunch can all be done in less than an hour.

To make sure the lift has its green credentials, all potentially toxic wash-off is collected and processed by an onboard water treatment plant, which enables the waste water to be discharged back into the sea in accordance with EU environmental standards.

Richard Bayley, Sealift2’s managing director, said: ‘Haslar Marina is a perfect location for our dock as it has some 600 berths with first-class facilities, but there is no space for lifting boats out onto hard standing.

‘Our dock will bring much-needed marine services to berth holders at Haslar and it will also attract boats from neighbouring marinas.’

The marina is owned and operated by Dean and Reddyhoff marinas, which also looks after Weymouth, East Cowes, and Portland marinas.

The firm, run by sailors John Dean and Richard Reddyhoff, has a Sealift2 at the East Cowes marina.

Mr Reddyhoff said: ‘We are very excited about the planned installation at Haslar.

‘We have no space at Haslar to install a traditional travel lift and boatyard – but the Sealift2 dock solves that problem.

‘It is completely self-contained and does not require valuable water front land for cleaning boats.

‘Having the new dock at Haslar as well as the Sealift2 dock in Cowes, which is next door to our East Cowes marina gives our customers the very best range of marine services on state-of-the-art equipment.’

Installation of the dock at Haslar is scheduled for late August when the dock will be towed from Cowes to Gosport.

Its installation is straightforward and so the dock will be open for business two days later.

Sealift2 International is based in Cowes, Isle of Wight, and specialises in designing and building eco-friendly pneumatic dry docks which deliver the fastest lift times available in the industry.
