CONTRACTORS are putting the finishing touches to Gosport’s new £5m ferry pontoon.

Workers from construction firms Trant and Ravestein are carrying out the final stages of work on the pontoon, which was floated into place last month.

Now they are installing CCTV cameras and information screens in it along with handrails, barriers and bollards.

Dozens of bags of sand are also being placed inside the pontoon to weigh it down.

This will ensure it is at the same level as the ferry when passengers are getting on and off.

Leader of Gosport Borough Council, Councillor Mark Hook, said: ‘I’m delighted with the ongoing works and everything is going to plan. It’s an excellent structure.

‘The vast majority of members of the public have been complimentary about it and are happy we have replaced the old structure.’

The work is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
