A BUSY road in Gosport is set for improvements to make it more attractive.

Hampshire County Council started the 10-week programme of works to Forton Road on Monday.

The road will not be closed as contractors work to widen the pavement between White’s Place car park and Lees Lane, next to the shops. Access to the car park and to sections of pavement will be restricted.

New surfacing up to the White’s Place bus stop will also be laid and a new guard railing will be fitted to the pavement near Lees Lane North junction.

The pavement outside St John’s Church will be realigned with new brick pillars and railings to separate the church’s boundary and the lay-by.
