MAJOR gas works will see a main road in Gosport closed for the next 12 weeks.

Gomer Lane is undergoing the latest phase of gas mains replacement by Southern Gas Networks.

Once complete, the workers will then move on to nearby Privett Road where there will be temporary traffic lights.

Laura Varney, a Southern Gas Networks spokeswoman, said: ‘This is vital work providing a safe and reliable network for the future.

‘Like all major gas mains replacement projects we have worked in close consultation with the local council and planned work to minimise disruption.

‘We do appreciate that our important work sometimes causes disruption and would ask that local residents and traders bear with us while we upgrade the gas network for the better.’

Southern Gas is working on a 30-year programme to replace all metallic pipes within 100ft of properties with flexible and durable polyethylene pipes.
