Because of difficulties the snag caused with traffic flow, a number of Portsmouth bus routes began to face delays just before rush hour that day.

Services 2, 3 and 18 were all at least 35 minutes behind schedule at one stage '“ leading to a '˜sincerely' apologetic tweet from bus operator First to customers affected.

In an update sent out yesterday, a spokesperson for Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust said Queen Alexandra Hospital itself was not affected by the issue.

The trust had said on Tuesday night it was '˜aware of the situation' and was 'working to improve it'.
