A LORRY and car collided in heavy rain on the M27 today.

The accident happened in the westbound carriageway between junctions four and five, near to Rownhams services.

Two lanes of the road were blocked after the crash, which happened just before 7am and queues quickly built up to the junction five turn-off for Southampton Airport and Eastleigh.

Matrix signs in the area were flashing a 40mph speed warning, but traffic began moving freely again when the vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder.

Hampshire Police Constabulary say no one was hurt in the incident.
