FOUR cars were involved in an accident on the westbound M27 which caused major tailbacks.

It happened at 7.50am between junctions eight and nine, close to Whiteley.

All three lanes were closed off and officers from Hampshire County Council’s highways team lowered the bollards at Whiteley to allow motorists through.

There are reports that one person suffered minor injuries.

Delays of more than an hour caused traffic to back up on the A27 and A32.

The problem has now been cleared and traffic is flowing.

The Whiteley bollards will be raised within the next two hours.
