A MAN from Fareham has died in a car accident on the A31, at Wimborne.

The driver, in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after the camper van he was in collided head-on with a Dorset County Council truck, at around 10.15am today.

His wife was a front seat passenger and she was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. Her injuries were serious but not life threatening injuries.

She was flown to the hospital’s trauma unit where emergency doctors were standing by.

Police revealed that the driver of the county council truck is a man in his 40s, from Weymouth, who suffered serious injuries.

Police immediately closed the A31 to traffic, and it remained closed for much of today.
