A man has died after an accident on the road in to and out of Hayling Island.

The 36-year-old from Waterlooville, was driving a Ford Transit Minibus south along the A3023, Havant Road, Hayling Island at about 5.50am.

Police say the vehicle veered to the nearside kerb, collided with the kerb and then a lamp post causing the vehicle to overturn.

The driver sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, where he was pronounced dead.

There were two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash, both of whom are from Havant.

A 47-year-old man sustained serious injuries and a 36-year-old man sustained minor injuries.

A section of the road was closed for about two hours to allow a full investigation to take place.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw the van prior to the collision.
