POLICE have named a man who died when the minibus he was driving hit a lamp post.

David Stiller, of Grebe Close, Waterlooville, was driving a Ford Transit Minibus south along the Havant Road, Hayling Island, when the accident happened at 5.50am on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, by paramedics but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

There were two passengers in the vehicle when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered to the nearside kerb, collided with the kerb and then a lamp post causing the vehicle to overturn.

A 47-year-old passenger suffered a broken arm and a 36-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries. The men, who are both from Havant, have been released from hospital.

A section of the road was closed for about two hours on Wednesday to allow a full investigation to take place.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw the van prior to the collision.
