A MAN was pulled from the water by a coastguard rescue swimmer when he got into difficulties after swimming under Brighton Pier.

The National Maritime Operation Centre in Fareham co-ordinated the search.

A rescue helicopter and RNLI lifeboats searched for the 21-year-old man.

Maritime operations officer Steven Mann said specialist software was used to find him.

He said: ‘It helped us to work out very quickly where this man should be.’
