DELAYS are expected in Cosham as temporary traffic lights will be in operation,

From 9.30am till 3.30pm, Northern Road Bridge will have traffic lights as work continues on the road.

The signals are required during the final road surfacing work on the new bus lane.

But First Bus have announced that because of the traffic lights, they cannot serve the Cosham Interchange.

A spokesman said: ‘We have had reported to us that due to road works around the entrance to Cosham Interchange our buses are finding it difficult to make the turning safely.

‘Due to this all our services Southbound through Cosham will not serve the interchange until the road works have been removed to a safe location.

‘Sorry for any inconvenience.’

Most of the work has been carried out during the night but the road surface for the bus lane cannot be applied when temperatures are low.

Drivers are being advised to expect some delays and allow more time for their journeys.

Ashley Chaplin, Portsmouth City Council’s project manager, said: ‘This surfacing work has to be carried out during the day, but fortunately we’ve found a way to do it without closing the road entirely.

‘Our contractors will be managing the signals to keep traffic flowing as much as possible and minimise queues, however drivers should expect some delays in Cosham and allow extra time for their journey.’
