PORTSMOUTH North MP Penny Mordaunt’s office has become the headquarters for handling motorists’ appeals against their wheel clamping fines.

Ms Mordaunt and her team have set up a huge database which contains the details of hundreds of drivers who have been caught out by the clamping firm since last summer.

As part of Luke Stopforth’s court case Ms Mordaunt presented the judge with scores of pictures which show that the parking signs prior to July 23 were unclear.

She said: ‘I am confident that clamping will be made illegal soon under the Protection of Freedoms Bill which is currently going through parliament.

‘The clampers have caused problems for everyone in Cosham for long enough now.’

Cosham businesses have been against the clamping operations at the car parks saying it is affecting their trade.
