SCHOOLS have created ‘mural masterpieces’ to brighten up two underpasses.

The Gilles Bridge, Fareham and the Purbrook Way underpass, in Purbrook, have been hit by vandals in recent years. To deter future vandalism, Hampshire County Council drafted in schools to spruce them up with artwork.

Designs based around the 2012 Olympics were produced by Crookhorn College of Technology for the Purbrook underpass, while Wallisdean Junior School used the theme of sea, land and sky in Fareham.

Cllr Mel Kendal said: ‘I’m pleased that we’ve been able to work closely with some of the local schools, getting children involved in the designs of the murals which help give a sense of community to the children as well as reducing graffiti.’
