THE Gosport Ferry will run a restricted service over the weekend when a new pontoon is floated into place.

Work dismantling the current pontoon will start on Friday, June 17 with a new one being installed over that weekend.

It will then be reopened on the morning of Monday, June 20.

During the work a ferry service will run from nearby Endeavour Quay.

It will operate during normal ferry hours but the walkway at the quay is too steep for cycles, motorbikes or wheelchair users.

General manager Keith Edwards said: ‘For safety reasons we regret there will be no access for cycles, motorbikes or wheelchairs.

‘We are very sorry for this inconvenience, especially to our passengers who use wheelchairs.’

Wheelchair users will be eligible for a free 10-trip ticket when the new pontoon is opened.

The pontoon is expected to be arrive on a barge on Wednesday after a three-day journey from the Netherlands.
