A NEW high-speed ferry service between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight is up and running.

A foot passenger service has been launched between The Millennium Pontoon at The Camber in Old Portsmouth and Trinity Landing in Cowes.

The ferry has been launched by Scoot Ferries, based on the Isle of Wight.

Two new 41-passenger 20m orange and grey high speed catamarans will operate on the Cowes to Portsmouth route and will complete the crossing in under 35 minutes.

Chief executive Zoë Ombler said the new service was launching two years ahead of schedule.

A service between Cowes and Hamble is also due to start in 2016.
