CHANGES are in store for motorists visiting Portsmouth Naval Base.

From next Monday, drivers without passes will need to enter the base through Trafalgar Gate off the M275 rather than the old Unicorn Gate entrance.

Trafalgar Gate will be the only gate open to motorists 24 hours a day.

Unicorn Gate will be open to pass holders only and will be closed to motorists at weekends.

The switch coincides with the opening of the new M275 link road into Trafalgar Gate and is designed to ease congestion into and out of the base at rush-hour times. The link road aims to cut the amount of traffic in the city centre and improve air quality for residents nearby.
