GOSPORT Borough Council has confirmed that the new ferry pontoon will be moved in next week.
The new £5m pontoon, which has suffered from delays, was initially due to be installed in April.
It will now be floated into position over a four-day period between Friday, June 17 and Monday, June 20.
Councillor Graham Burgess, chairman of the community and environment board at the council, said: ‘It was the weekend that didn’t interfere with other things that were happening around the harbour in Gosport.
‘We wanted a weekend that was free and where the tidal conditions were right as well.
‘This will be an enormous improvement. This is going to be a state-of-the-art pontoon.
‘It will be the gateway to Gosport and it shows that Gosport is moving forward.’
The ferry service will continue to operate from Endeavour Quay in nearby Mumby Road, while it is installed, although bikes and motorbikes will not be accommodated for.
The new pontoon has been built in Holland.
