DISCOUNT parking is being offered in the run-up to Christmas.

Havant Borough Council is offering reduced price parking at all of its pay and display car parks on every Saturday through December.

Drivers will be able to buy a ticket for one hour and get an extra hour free of charge.

Officials said motorists should buy a ticket in the normal way and display it in their cars.

Parking wardens will then note the time the ticket is due to expire and allow for another hour after that.

The initiative ran last year and was a success.

A council spokeswoman said the scheme was to help motorists and encourage shoppers to stay longer in town centres. The scheme starts on December 6.
