A rail passenger today described the terrible moment a train hit a woman at Hilsea Station in Portsmouth.

Charlotte Hills, 23, from North End was in the front carriage when the incident happened.

She said: ‘The train wasn’t due to stop at Hilsea so we were going through quite fast. Then all of a sudden they slammed on the brakes and the train stopped.

‘The next thing was, the driver announced that a collision had happened.

‘We couldn’t see anything, but the police are here and just walked past our carriage.

‘The next stop was meant to be Fratton at 12, but we’re not allowed to go anywhere at the moment. We’re basically waiting for the police to give us the okay to do anything.

‘It sounds terrible - I was just going to see my partner.’
