A person was hit by a train at Liss this afternoon.

Rail services on the main line between Portsmouth and London were severely affected by the incident, the second within 24 hours in the area.

Yesterday, a woman was killed on the rail line at Hilsea Station in Portsmouth.

This afternoon, South West Trains said in a statement: ‘A person has been hit by a train between Petersfield and Haslemere causing delays of up to 60 minutes to trains between Havant and Guildford.

However All lines have now been reopened but delays of up to 40 minutes should be expected between Petersfield and Haslemere.

Disruption is expected to continue until 6.30pm

It was feared that the rail disruption would affect Madness fans making their way from the London area to tonight’s concert at Fratton Park.

SWT said that Southern was accepting its tickets for Havant travellers. ‘Customers for this station should use Southern train services’ it said.
