Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that a police driver will continue on normal duties as an investigation starts into a crash that left a 12-year-old girl in hospital.

The youngster was crossing Gosport Road in Fareham when she was involved in a collision with a police car with blue lights and sirens yesterday.

It happened near the junction with Redlands Lane and the Esso garage just after 4pm.

She was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham with a non-life-threatening head injury.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed a referral has been made to its Professional Standards Department.

A spokeswoman said the driver is on regular duties as per ‘normal protocol’.

The Roads Policing Unit is investigating the incident.

Call Sgt Shaun Hopkins with information on 101.
