THE A3 is to turn into an advertising campaign for Portsmouth ahead of the new tunnel at Hindhead opening this month.
It will comprise outdoor posters and bus advertising, asking commuters to visit thewaterfrontcity.co.uk and telling people how journey times between the capital and Portsmouth will be reduced when the tunnel opens.
No official date has yet been given for its opening.
Jacquie Shaw, of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, one of the organisations behind the campaign said: ‘Lots of visitors to Portsmouth come from this area.
‘We anticipate that as much as 30 minutes will be cut from the journey from south London and Guildford by the tunnel so we’re keen to remind people that a day out or short break in Portsmouth really is much closer than they think.’
The 1.2-mile tunnel will run under the Devil’s Punch Bowl.
