Long delays on major road after two parked vehicles obstruct traffic

A JUNCTION in Milton, Portsmouth is being improved to make it safer and reduce traffic problems for residents.

Up to now, drivers coming from Locksway Road onto Milton Road have had to give way and wait for a gap in the busy northbound and southbound traffic.

Now, Portsmouth City Council is changing the junction to a mini-roundabout, which will make it safer and easier to use.

The roundabout will also improve traffic flow around the Milton area. Up to now, the junction was avoided by many motorists, who tended to drive through the area, heading for other routes. This meant some residential streets got more than their fair share of traffic.

The mini-roundabout will be created next week by Colas, the council’s highways contractor, using road markings alone. The work will be done at night to avoid disruption to traffic.

It will be monitored to make sure it is working as planned and to see if further improvements are needed.
